Hello Mr. Chahin,

My name is [ ] and I'm the Managing Director of [ ], a niche financial technology search and placement firm. This is not an email blast. It's a manually-intensive research-based inquiry conducted by me for a search project in the San Francisco Bay Area. The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing though. Have I made a special trip to the National Archives to do enough in-depth research to write your biography? No. Have I done enough research to confidently state that I believe that a case could potentially be made for your candidacy for this position? Yes.

TARGET: TO SECURE A BUSINESS SAVVY, SELF-STARTING, PRE-SALES ENGINEERING PROFESSIONAL FOR A PROVIDER OF SOPHISTICATED ONLINE FRAUD DETECTION SOLUTIONS THAT DELIVERS UNMATCHED SECURITY TO BANKS, E-COMMERCE PROVIDERS AND SOCIAL NETWORKS.

If an economy can be said to be the sum total of the transactions that make it up, the following is about technology that directly impacts a billion plus transactions on a monthly basis. While everyone seems to be talking about fraud and cyber security these days, this organization is a proven leader in the world of online fraud and threat detection.

The Challenge: Locked-down devices behind firewalls have given way to tablets and smartphones; now, behind the anonymity of an Internet connection, enterprise users and consumers are indistinguishable. The goal is to prevent hundreds of millions of dollars in fraud losses globally, without impacting the customer experience for legitimate users.

One of the biggest drivers of this organization's growth is the rapid adoption of mobile solutions. They continue to see strong demand from customers looking to extend protection to their mobile applications. Users connect to businesses both via mobile apps and browsers, so it's critical to protect both channels through a single solution that delivers seamless authentication across devices and provides high levels of fraud protection.

"Our grand business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand."

What's at hand is that this organization's platform-as-a-service now analyzes and protects more than one billion mobile and Web-based transactions per month. By the end of 2015 they expect to analyze more than 15 billion transactions.

FINANCIAL: Base salary, plus commissions paid quarterly and Pre-IPO options.

STATUS: I'm writing to you as a "go-to-person." The intent here is to simply facilitate progress no differently than if someone from the White House sent a note to your corporate email address because you're being considered for a full-time public service position. There's no motivation to entice anyone away from a happy home so to speak. If this isn't meaningful to you personally, no response is necessary. For many, "no" doesn't necessarily mean forever.

That's why if I've approached you before, I'm reaching out again and might continue to do so sporadically. Of course, if you're not receptive to the idea, or would rather that I use a preferred email address moving forward, your wishes will be respected.

THE BOTTOM LINE: It will be practically impossible for anyone that's casually on the job market to successfully drift into this position. This organization is on the front line of progress when it comes to taking a bite out of cyber crime and an incoming candidate will need to capably demonstrate that they can dedicatedly add value in as many of the following areas as possible: 1. Web-based fraud security. 2. Financial Services Industry experience. 3. Outstanding presentation abilities and the ability to be the "smartest person in the room" when giving technical presentations to diverse enterprise business and technology audiences. 4. Familiarity with Java (the platform's underlying technology), and Web technologies primarily for the ability to read code for troubleshooting purposes as opposed to the need to do programming.

If after reading this you're still thinking that this doesn't seem like a very personalized message, I'd ask you to consider that sometimes you'll come across something that you'll perceive to be absolutely on-target. Conversely you'll perceive other things as absolutely off-target. Sometimes something appears to be somewhere in-between. In those in-between cases, (which can be argued is where our greatest risk of criticism and potential for growth lies) you need to dig deeper to determine whether the elements of success are there and whether a compelling case to progress with those elements could and/or should be made. If in my assessment you were in the absolutely off-target category, I wouldn't have reached out to you. Rest assured, you're not on a list. The number of individuals that I reach out to on a project like this is limited to my daily research efforts and I'm more than happy to respond to any questions, comments, concerns or considerations that you have in reference to this.

REQUESTED ACTION: If you're sincerely interested in learning more, please provide a preferred email address (my email address is [ ]) and 1. I'll revert with comprehensive specifics on my client, the position and the compensation figures (roughly 5 pages of information) provided that: 2. You provide an explicit date with your response by which you will commit to both review the information and get back to me with a go or no-go decision as to your interest level and whether you would like to schedule a call with me to discuss this further as a next step.

So to be clear, the proposed "equivalence of action" is that upon your request I will forward you additional details about the opportunity provided that you let me know by when I should expect to hear back from you one way or the other as to whether this makes sense from your perspective and if we should schedule a call as the next step. If I do not hear back from you by the explicit date that you provide, I will close the file on this matter as it relates to your candidacy.

Your Sincere Friend,

[ ]
